User flows & Prototype

BRIEF

“Add a feature” project as a way to create work that adapts and reflects a brand’s already exists.

PROCESS

Before going through details, I want to start by highlighting how I structured the project.

USER INTERVIEWS

I asked 5 users of Netflix to get more in depth review (friends & family) about their experience. Maybe I get to know another platform they may use. Maybe I get to know which feature I should consider adding.

MARKET RESEARCH

Users tend to look for alternatives to use if they feel threatened or if they are spending their time on a platfrom where they don’t get what they exactly need. One of the alternatives that they prefer after Netflix is Amazon Prime Video. Regardless of the benefits of being a prime member in Amazon, their platform is a well-known competitor to Netflix.

INSIGHTS

I got some valuable insights from the research phase. These are the ones that I recieved the most, so I wanted to highlight using post-it notes to have an easy way to retrieve them later.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Movie addicts and netflix fans need an easy and time efficient way to have more than one list because they often want to categorize their watchlist and share recommendations with each other.

EPICS & USER STORIES

Translating the problem statement into one epic and two user stories. For now, I choose the second user story since it's inclusive. In other words, I can include filter option inside each list separately later on. So, the users enjoy both features.

EPIC 1

As a user I want to easily find & watch my favorite movies again in mylists.

USER FLOWS

Therefore, I created three user flows; each one serves the purpose of the second user story where the user will have the ability to create & name lists. In addition to that, they can share them too with their friends & family members.

So, the following user flows are to achieve 3 simple tasks:

1- Add a movie to a new list or existed list from the homepage.

2- Add a new list from mylists page.

3- Share a list.

Hi-Fi PROTOTYPE

Afterwards, I used screen record option in my macbook to record my interaction with the prototype after I finished applying & mimcing Netflix design principles & interactions using FramerX. Then, uploaded the video on youtube. You can enjoy watching here or follow this link: https://youtu.be/Q_wH7ji0vm0

CONCLUSIONS & OUTCOMES

Netflix is one of my most used applications on mobile & desktop is lacking a categorization feature. At this time of intense social distancing, I thought about adding this new feature for Netflix, where users could add various lists & give them a name.

The new feature impacts:

1- Users can have more than one category of movies/series list so that they have an organized way to search for or to go back to an old movie easily without being frustrated or lost.

2- Share lists with each other & exchange recommendations so that they feel closer together.

In short, as a UI/UX Designer, I was responsible for coming up with user stories regarding the new feature, choosing the best fit for Netflix audience, and then deviding it into tasks to implement the changes into the UI Design part.

To conclude, I had a lot of fun creating this feature since it gave me the same feeling as if I was working for a brand that I really connect with. Also, I enjoyed re-creating Netflix’s sleek design & thin lines.
